About
I am a multi-media illustrator who’s current creative practise is focused on ceramics. However I have a very flexible mindset and the media I chose to use is primarily driven by either concept or function. This way of thinking has been cultivated by the education I have received thus-far which has encouraged freedom of expression:
University:
Kingston University (2015-2019):
Illustration Animation BA (Hons): 2.1
Grand Valley State University (2018, Year Abroad)
UAL Camberwell, Chelsea and Wimbledon:
Foundation Diploma in Art and Design (2014)
ALevel:
Hillview School For Girls
Fashion: Distinction*, History: B, Art: B
GCSE:
Hillview School for Girls
Maths: A, English: A, ICT: B
The main theme through my education has usually been communications based, and some of my key interests are manga, comics and politics which I have explored within my work. For example, in one project I looked at how the functionality of ceramic vessels can be used to explore the current state of American politics. This multi-media approach to my work is something I have explored extensively through my education.
Some of the core skills I have learnt:
Software:
Adobe Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Lightroom, Illustrator)
Microsoft Office
Practical Skills:
3D:
Ceramics
Model Making
Machine Sewing and Embroidery
2D:
Multimedia Drawing/Illustration
Printmaking (Linocut, Screen printing)
Digital Drawing/Editing
Gif/Animation
Photography
Bookbinding
I’ve always enjoyed communicating concepts in a way that invites curiosity and debate, through whatever media or method fits best. People rarely like to be told that they are incorrect, however, to encourage someone to see something from a different perspective might inspire them to be curious, to do their own research and form their own well-informed and rational opinions based on fact, not hearsay.
This concept led style of thought is what inspires me. I am unsure of where this approach will lead me in my future career. However, with an adaptable mentality, I am confident that I will create a niche for my work and will work with others to expand where illustrators fit in the industry.
